Each year, United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax preparation services to local residents. VITA volunteers receive free IRS-certified training, so that one-on-one tax assistance is just a phone call away for Summit and Medina County residents.
This vital program, at a cost of only $100,000 a year, brought $3 million in refunds back to our community this past tax season. In other words, for every dollar you give in support of United Way’s VITA program, more than $30 goes to local residents. That money can help families pay for necessities, like food and rent, or provide a much-needed cushion in the event of an emergency.
